“AWARENESS AND SELF-CARE PRACTICES AMONG PRIMARY HYPERTENSIVE PATIENTS REGARDING PREVENTION OF CHRONIC KIDNEY DISEASE AT R.L JALAPPA HOSPITAL, KOLAR”

Introduction
Chronic kidney disease and Primary hypertension are closely interrelated. Patients with Primary hypertension need to be aware of their situation and follow suggested self- care guidelines in order to reduce and avoid the development of Chronic Kidney Disease.(1)
Purpose: The purpose of the current study is to evaluate the individuals with primary hypertension to create awareness and self-care practices for preventing Chronic Kidney Disease at the selected hospitals Kolar.
Methods:
A descriptive survey Design was adopted by using purposive sampling technique. A total 315 primary hypertensive patients were included in the study. A Structured Knowledge Questionnaire was used to collect the data based on expert’s validation and inclusion criteria of the study.
Results: The present study results revealed that the majority 98.1% of the study participants are belonged to moderate level of awareness and none of them belonged to low level of awareness. In self -care practices on prevention of CKD of the study participants 72.3% were unfavorable. The association of awareness with selected demographic variables (gender, occupational status, type of life style, habits, family history of hypertension and hormonal disorder, blood vessel disorder) is found statistically significant at p<0.05, whereas with self-care practice (age, family history of hypertension and other illness) also had statistically significant at p<0.05.
Conclusion:
Finally, the researchers concluded the findings of the study that there was moderate level of awareness and unfavorable attitude towards self-care practices among primary hypertensive patients on prevention of CKD, Thus the study recommended to distribute the hypertension & prevention of CKD information booklets to the all-primary hypertensive patients to adopt modified self- care practices.
