Abstract

Acute respiratory infection (ARI) is a disease that often occurs and can be caused by bacteria or viruses. The use of appropriate antibiotics in the treatment of ARI is very important to avoid antibiotic resistance and ensure the success of therapy. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the use of antibiotics in ARI patients at RSUD Dr. DrajatPrawiranegara, Serang District, and analyzed adherence to the Gyssens method in antibiotic treatment. This study used a descriptive observational method with retrospective data collection through medical records. The study population included all ISPA patients receiving antibiotic therapy at Dr. DrajatPrawiranegara in the period September 2022 - December 2022. The research sample was selected using systematic random sampling, with a total of 55 patients. The results of the analysis showed that most of the ARI patients were male (53%) and the average age of the patients was 4.94 months. The most frequently used antibiotic was Cefotaxime (62%), followed by Ceftriaxone (13%). Evaluation of the use of antibiotics with the Gyssens method showed that most of the antibiotics were given according to rational criteria (74%). However, there were several cases that did not meet the criteria, such as administration of antibiotics with inappropriate doses (10%) and too short duration of administration (2%). These findings indicate that the use of antibiotics in ARI patients at RSUD Dr. Prawiranegara degrees generally fit the rational criteria. However, it is necessary to pay attention to some inappropriate cases, such as inappropriate doses and too short duration of administration. This shows the need to increase the understanding and awareness of medical personnel in the rational use of antibiotics. This study contributes to understanding the use of antibiotics in ARI patients and encourages increased adherence to treatment guidelines. The results of this study can be used as a basis for improving more effective treatment management and reducing the problem of antibiotic resistance. However, further research is needed with a larger sample and involving other factors that influence the use of antibiotics in ARI patients.
