Abstract

Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) is one of the highest infectious diseases with a prevalence of 15% in Indonesia. UTI treatment becomes much more difficult if the patient has antibiotic resistance. One strategy to stop the development of antibiotic resistance is to evaluate the appropriate and rational use of antibiotics. This study aims to analyze the characteristics and profile of Urinary Tract Infection (UTI) patients at dr. DrajatPrawiranegara for the 2022 period, as well as evaluating the quality of antibiotic use based on the Gyssens method. A total of 50 medical records were selected by consecutive sampling for this study. The results of this study showed that based on gender, it was found that 46% of patients were male and 64% of patients were female. The age range of patients was divided as follows: 0-5 years (6%), 12-16 years (4%), 17-25 years (12%), 26-35 years (28%), 36-45 years (12%), 46-55 years (16%), 56-65 years ( 10%), and over 65 years (10%). From medical record data, the most frequently prescribed type of antibiotic was ceftriaxone (43%), followed by levofloxacin (31%), cefotaxime (16%), cefoperazone (4.1%), and cefoperazine sulbactam (4.1%). All patients received intravenous antibiotic therapy. The results of evaluating the quality of antibiotic use using the Gyssens method showed that 74% of patients met the category of rational use of antibiotics. The remaining 26% fall into the category of irrational use of antibiotics, with variations within each category. The conclusion of this study is that the majority of UTI patients at RSUD dr. DrajatPrawiranegara received antibiotics rationally. However, It is necessary to pay attention to several additional risk factors that can affect the use of antibiotics, such as age, gender, medical history, and health conditions. Further research with a larger sample size and involving a multidisciplinary team is recommended to obtain more representative and comprehensive results.
