Abstract

This article aims to ascertain how effleurage massage affects pain in individuals with CRF chronic renal failure receiving hemodialysis. A key method for lowering tension and promoting body part relaxation is effleurage massage. Effleurage massage with coconut oil helps in the reduction of leg pain among ESRD patients undergoing hemodialysis. This manuscript investigates the impact of effleurage massage using coconut oil on pain among Chronic Renal Failure (CRF) patients undergoing hemodialysis at Amaravathi Hospital, Karur district. The study explores the potential therapeutic benefits of this intervention in alleviating pain associated with hemodialysis. Through a rigorous examination of pain levels and patient experiences, the research aims to contribute valuable insights into complementary approaches for improving the well-being of CRF patients during hemodialysis, offering a promising avenue for enhancing the overall quality of care in renal health settings.

There was one group pre- and post-testing using the quasi-experimental design. 50 individuals with mild to moderate leg discomfort, aged 30 to 70, were chosen by the non-probability purposive sampling approach. The WONG BAKER pain scale was used for the pre-test. Then the effleurage massage with coconut oil was given to the chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. After a month a post-test was conducted. The results showed that in the test among 50 hemodialysis patients,28(56%) had mild levels of leg pain, and 22(44%) had moderate levels of leg pain. After intervention (effleurage massage with coconut oil) among 50 hemodialysis patients 20(40%) had no pain, 19(38%) had mild level of leg pain, and 11(22%) had moderate level of leg pain. It shows that there was a reduction in leg pain among chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis after the administration of effleurage massage with coconut oil. The effectiveness of effleurage massage with coconut oil was statistically tested and results were highly significant at (P<0.05) level. The study concludes that Effleurage massage with coconut oil is effective in reducing leg pain among chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis.
